One of the biggest mistakes I made early on was thinking that if I learned After Effects and got great at it, that I'd be able to start working on Hollywood movies.
But that's NOT true. Because most VFX Studios don't use After Effects at all, they use Nuke.
Why is that? Because After Effects can be used for a few shots, but when you need to render out 100s of shots, Nuke is the best tool for the job. If you’re ready to take your VFX career seriously and want the skills to work in studios, now is the best time to start learning Nuke!

YouTube is great, but for Nuke and Unreal Engine, it doesn't always connect the dots for Filmmaking. They often do not tie artistic and technical ideas together. When I first learned Unreal to create films, I got stuck constantly because I didn’t understand how the entire system worked together.

Nuke runs great on almost every PC or laptop, and the more RAM you’ll be able to playback longer VFX shots faster.
For Unreal, if you've got a gaming PC, you're already set to roll. Ideally, you want at least 32GB of RAM and a GPU with at least 8GB of VRAM.
But don't sweat it, start with what you've got and upgrade as you go. As you start landing commercial work with your new skills, you can reinvest and upgrade your rig.
